delivery of presentation just right, content just right, left talk understanding the problem and where to apply the solutions suggestedCreated over 4 years ago

Content was interesting, delivery was engaging and it left me thinking of a couple instances where database views could be applicable on a current project. Pretty much what you're aiming for at an LRUG talk I reckon.Created over 4 years ago

I think the general idea of the talk is sound but i think focussing on what's possible in SQL that isn't with Arel is more useful. Personally, i tend to have complex joins in my business logic as it's easier to test / manage than having to run migrations. If i need to mess around with it, i can just drop it in a text editor then use the command line client of the database i'm using to execute it. I don't need to alter the view to fiddle etc. I tend to drop to raw SQL when i know loading a bunch of ActiveRecord objects is going to be too slow. You gave a great example of that, perhaps focus more on where it's good to raw SQL to get the best performance? It was a good talk though, i enjoyed it. Created over 4 years ago
